October Newsletter

Greetings,

I have been thinking a lot recently about prayer. To new Christians, prayer might seem like a one-way appeal, but prayer needs to include some time of silence to hear God’s voice. It is a conversation.

We take for granted that people know how to pray. Our students pray often during the day, but I have noticed that their prayers take on a stock quality (“Please keep everyone safe on the playground, be with anyone with any tests or quizzes, thank you for the beautiful day”). While all of these things are important, I am challenging our students to go a little deeper with their prayers. Are they praying for Jesus’ guidance in all aspects of their lives, are they praying for salvation for those they know and those they have yet to meet, are they praying that they show Christ’s love to all they meet?

Since we are a mission school, meaning that not all of our students are Christians nor do they come from Christian homes, many of our parents do not know how to pray. We are kicking off a Moms in Prayer International chapter here at BCS on October 2nd at 9:00am.

MIPS is an international group devoted to praying in and for our schools. There is a structured curriculum and booklet available for purchase for $6. ALL MOMS/GRANDMOMS ARE INVITED TO JOIN…..your children do not have to attend BCS to join the MIPS group. The MIPS curriculum will teach you how to pray for your children. If you would like to build up your praying muscles, please join. You can contact Katie Arter or BPF directly at BPF@bethanychristian.org. I hope to see you there!

GRANDPARENTS DAY

Friday, October 5th is the best day of the year! We invite all grandparents to attend school with their grandchildren (if Grandies are not available, special friends, parents, or other relatives are encouraged to attend). The program will begin at 9:00am in the gym.

ANNUAL BANQUET

We will be celebrating God’s goodness and blessings on Friday, October 19th at 6:30 in the gym with our Annual Fundraising Banquet. We will be dedicating the gym to a very special person and their family. We will have delicious food and wonderful fellowship. The entire church and school body is invited to attend. Please let Christina Hughes know if you can come (chughes@bethanychristian.org). We will have free babysitting and the 4th and 5th grade classes will perform.

GIANT/MARTINS SCHOOL REWARDS, SCRIP, and AMAZON SMILE

If you are a Giant/Martins shopper, please link your Bonus Card to BCS through A+ School rewards. A portion of your purchases can be converted to CASH for BCS!!  We also still have Scrip, a fundraising program where you can purchase gift cards for where you normally shop, and BCS gets a percentage from the sale of the gift cards. If you are an Amazon shopper, please use smile.Amazon.com instead (it is the same website with the same products) and designate Bethany Christian School, Inc. as your nonprofit.
